Feis nan Coisir

FEIS NAN COISIR ,a favourite with Gaelic music enthusiasts, started with an Afternoon Ceilidh in the Town Hall, where young local soloists and groups, singers and instrumentalists showed the high standard of their various talents. This event was ably hosted by the inimitable John Murdo Morrison. The best where invited to the stage of the Evening Concert.

The main choral event was held in the beautiful setting of An Lanntair and was hosted by Radio and TV celebrities Morag Domhnallach and Ian MacIllemhicheil. It started of with the Lewis and Harris Pipe Band followed by the Performance of the island’s senior choirs, together with songs from Anne Lorne Gilles, and Catriona Watt, the young Scottish traditional musician of the year, a Lewis teenager with a beautiful voice.

I couldn’t take part in the dance with the popular band Skerrymore which rounded off thge event, much to my regret, but my bus taking me home to Uig left at 11 o’clock.

A most enjoyble day out!

FEIS NAN COISIR ist seit Jahren ein Höhepunkt für Freunde gälischer Musik in Lewis. Ich besuchte 2 Konzerte, die „Afternoon Ceilidh“ auf der sich 3 Stunden lang, die jungen Talente, Sänger, Instrumentalisten und Gruppen vorstellten. Das Abend-Konzert, eingeleitet durch einen Auftritt der „Lewis and Harris Pipe Band“, stand im Zeichen der Chöre, die ihr Können abwechselnd mit den Gewinnern des nachmittäglichen Wettbewerbs darboten. Als Stargast trat Anne Lorne Gilles auf und Catriona Watt, die junge, einheimische Sängerin, die kürzlich als „young Scottish traditional musician of the year“ ausgezeichnet wurde. Den Tanz der populären Band Skerryvore konnte ich leider nicht besuchen, da mein Bus um 11 Uhr nach Uig zurückfuhr.
